Standard Operating Guideline

Probationary Fire Personnel

 

Probationary Fire Personnel (Minimum and/or no fire experience)

 

1.    Application process been completed and accepted.

2.    90-day probation period to begin.

3.    Responsibilities;

     Satisfy required probationary training.

     Attend regular schedule training.

     Only excused absences will be accepted.

     Notification to a Department Officer prior to absence.

     Non-notification of absence shall be recorded as Unexcused.

     3-unexcused absences will place the PFP in jeopardy of being dismissed from the department.

 

4.    Required training;

·        1 hour departmental orientation

·        4 hours of personal protective clothing

·        2 hour of safety

·        4 hours of self-contained breathing apparatus

·        2 hour fire science

·        1 hour incident command

·        1 hour department rules and regulations

·        2 hour of smoke house or blackout training

·        1 hour basic tools

·        2 hours of apparatus familiarization; (E2, E3, B3 and R10)

 

Exam (passing score is 70 or better)

Skills test: PPE & SCBA pass/fail by Training personnel

All required paperwork submitted to department training officer

 

5.    Probationary period;

     PFP shall not operate and/or drive and departmental apparatus

     PFP shall not participate in any emergency incident

     PFP shall be issued PPE for training purposes. (As PPE becomes available)

     PFF shall not be issued departmental Minitor pager and/or radio

     PFP shall not be issued departmental key(s)

     PFP will be trained by authorized departmental instructors.

    PFP will participate in apparatus and station inspection/maintenance only when a shift leader or trainer is present.

    Complete required training

    Department will not invest in any outside training for the PFP
